Remove The Top Of A Sears Clothes Washer For Repair

Access to the tub parts and inside cabinet components can be tricky on some Sear clothes washers. Most washer cabinets come off in one piece. If your Sears washer has an emblem on the front, the top of the washer will release from the unit. The top of a Sears washer is similar to most dryer tops when it comes to removal. However unlike a dryer, the Sears washer uses a Torx screw along with three retaining clips to secure the top to the front panels. Does this Spark an idea?

Instructions

1. Unplug the Sears washer power cord from the wall outlet. Turn the water supply spigots off at the wall. Pull the washer 3 feet away from the back wall. If necessary, place a bucket under the supply hoses where they connect to the back of the washer. Disconnect the hoses and lay the hose ends in the bucket.

2. Insert a small flathead screwdriver between the Sears emblem and the washer cabinet on the front of the washer. You can use a putty knife to do this as well. Pry the emblem off of the front trim.

3. Remove the Torx screw that secures the trim to the front of the washer with a Torx driver. Lift the trim piece off of the front of the washer.

4. Grab the top panel on both sides and pull the top forward ½-inch while lifting the front of the top panel. Raise the front of the top panel up and back toward the rear wall. The top panel will rest on the two hinges connecting the top to the rear panel.
