Adult Education
Your local community college will offer short-term adult education classes, which are generally held in the evening and do not require you to have any experience or education. The courses typically train students in painting, metal work, and safety procedures at entrance levels.
Degree Program
An associate degree is taken over two years; you can enroll into a program at a local community or technical college. To enroll, you are required to have a high school diploma or GED. Most programs include two portions: auto body repair and painting.
Apprenticeships
In an apprenticeship, you would gain hands-on experience by working side by side with a trained auto body repair professional. In California, the International Association of Machinists and Aerospace Workers offer an apprentice placement where trainees receive 4 years and 8,000 hours of practical training, as well as 144 hours of classroom theoretical training.
