Contacting the Red Cross is an important first step in receiving help after a fire. With offices located across the United States, the Red Cross is prepared to help victims find shelter and supplies. It helps people in trouble begin to rebuild their lives.
Insurance Agency
The homeowners insurance company that insures the damaged home is another resource for help. Having dealt with other families in similar situations, the representatives are able to advise and help on the road to recovery by processing the claim for the damage.
Mental Health
After surviving a house fire, family members may need counseling to recover from the experience. Nonprofit crisis counseling centers are available for free in most areas, and those with health insurance may be able to receive private counseling for only a small cost.
Salvation Army
The local chapter of the Salvation Army is a good place to turn for clothing and other donated goods in the time immediately following a fire.
Department of Social Services
