File A Claim For Pothole Damage In Boston

So your automobile has fallen victim to one of the city’s gaping holes that "bloom" in the spring alongside the Public Garden jonquils. Don't take this lying down. Take action. First, report the pothole so another traveler doesn’t have to follow your fate. You should then take a moment to assess the damage to your vehicle and consider your options. You may be eligible for repair reimbursement from the city of Boston.

Instructions

1. Note the exact location of the pothole that caused the damage to your vehicle. Include the closest cross street or the address number from a nearby building. Get as specific as possible.

2. Obtain the names and contact information of any witnesses to the incident. Make a copy of any police, auto club or tow record report.

3. Go to the Website for the city of Boston. You'll find it in our Resources section. Download the “Notice of Claim” form.

4. Fill out the form. Use the diagram to draw a "picture" of your accident.

5. Include reports from Step 2. Also include any damage cost estimates or repair bills receipts.

6. Submit the claim form, reports, receipts, and a filing fee. Mail all of these things to The Office of the City Clerk, Boston City Hall, Room 601, Boston, Massachusetts 02201. Address it to the Claims Division. Your claim for damage to your vehicle must be submitted within thirty days of the accident.
