Many aspects of green living require very little in the way of implementation.
It's no secret that the word is currently experiencing a "green" renaissance. With more and more people becoming socially aware of their impact on the environment, eco-friendly living has experienced a rise in popularity in recent years -- which is likely to continue. While many people might think that living green is expensive and time-consuming, there are plenty of easy steps that the average homeowner can take to move toward a more environmentally conscious lifestyle. Does this Spark an idea?
Instructions
1. Switch to environmentally friendly household cleaners. Common household cleaners such as bleach and ammonia are not only toxic to both humans and pets, but they also negatively affect the environment when not properly disposed of. In recent years, a great many naturally derived antibacterial cleansers have hit the market, and are thought to be better for both your family and the environment. For example, unlike common triclosan-based cleaners, many antibacterial wipes contain thymol, which is derived from thyme oil, as an active ingredient.
2. Ditch your incandescent lightbulbs. Compact fluorescent bulbs are much better for the environment than traditional incandescent bulbs, and will save you a great deal of money in energy costs over a long enough period of time. Many people find that compact fluorescents are also brighter and more effective at lighting a home than incandescents, making them all the more worth installing.
3. Save water. Many people don't realize how much water they tend to waste on a daily basis. There are a variety of things you can do to save on water, including shortening the length of your showers, installing a shower head that limits water flow and installing faucet aerators in each of your faucets. You should also consider using a water filter and drinking tap water rather than purchasing bottled water. Bottled water is not only expensive, but is also bad for the environment given the amount of plastic that is used in packaging.
