You can correct your own surround sound system.
Surround sound speaker systems use anywhere from five to seven speakers (plus an additional subwoofer) to create a fully surround audio experience. When using a 5.1 surround sound system you may encounter occasional problems, ranging from some speakers not working to the direction of the audio being off. All of these problems can be corrected by first inspecting the system itself.
Instructions
1. Look over the wires running from the speakers into the "In" ports on the surround sound receiver. Make sure the wires are completely inserted into the connection ports. If not, the speakers are not going to receive the audio signal.
2. Make sure you have the speakers connected to the correct speaker ports on the receiver. Each speaker has a specific position in a 5.1 surround sound. There is one center channel, a front left, front right, rear left and rear right. If the speaker is connected to the wrong audio connection port (such as the center channel being connected to the front left audio port) the audio from the surround sound receiver is played through the wrong speaker, which throws off the entire surround sound experience.
3. Turn down the audio. If the audio is too high the speakers are going to crackle and play distorted audio.
4. Replace the fuse in the rear of the surround sound receiver. When too much power is generated in the receiver the fuse blows out. The exact fuse required is stated in the receiver's user manual. You may purchase the replacement at most audio/video stores and the location you purchased the equipment from.
