Cincinnati Housing Grants

Homeowners face a series of challenges, including costly repairs.

Homeowners face many expenses related to buying and maintaining a home. For homebuyers, the downpayment and closing costs can present a problem. Homeowners may experience trouble paying for a new roof, heating costs, or disposal systems. In Cincinnati, there are many grant programs available to help qualified families meet these challenges.

American Dream Downpayment Initiative

The American Dream Downpayment Initiative (ADDI) is coordinated by the Department of Community Development in Cincinnati. ADDI provides downpayment assistance to qualified individuals through a grant provided by the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development. The qualified applicant must be a first-time homebuyer, a single parent with custody of a minor child, or a displaced homemaker. Applicants must also meet income requirements to receive a grant. Grants are in the form of a forgivable loan that requires a five-year residency. After the five-year residency period, the loan is forgiven and the homebuyer owes nothing.

Home Energy Assistance Program

Federally funded by the Ohio Department of Development's Office of Community Service, the Home Energy Assistance Program helps homeowners and renters with energy costs. The grant is designed to assist with the costs of heating your home. The grant usually comes in the form of a credit to your utility bill. To qualify, a family must meet certain income requirements. Your income and resources are taken into consideration as a whole. A family's size and primary source of heating the home are also considered. The program only accepts applications during certain months of the year.

Hamilton County Community Development

The Hamilton County Community Development (HCCD) program offers various grants to assist homeowners. For families that need assistance with an on-site disposal system, there is a grant that can cover up to $6,500 of the expenses. Families must be classified as low-to-moderate-income homeowners to qualify. Income standards are based on the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) table. If you need assistance with a downpayment, you can also apply to the HCCD program for a grant. The grant is dependent on funds provided by HUD. The grant program may only be open during certain months. You must also meet income requirements to be eligible for downpayment assistance.
