Diy Dvd Holder

Make a DVD holder for your movie collection.

Owning the DVD version of your favorite films and shows is the best way to be able to take in the entertainment whenever you want. Unfortunately, this means that over time you can amass a large collection of DVDs with no place to put them. DVDs don’t fit into standard tape or CD racks so most people keep them stacked in piles wherever they can find the space. You can build a simple metal DVD holder to accommodate your collection in a neat way. Does this Spark an idea?

Instructions

1. Cut five lengths of half-inch square metal rods to 3 feet long. Use a cut off wheel to make clean cuts on the rods.

2. Measure the height of your tallest DVD case that you want to put in the holder.

3. Cut four lengths of rod to the height of the DVD you measured, plus half an inch for feet. If your tallest DVD is 14 inches tall, cut four rods to 14 ½ inches.

4. Make six rods that are as long as the DVD case is wide. The width is the horizontal measurement along the front or back of the case.

5. On a large, flat table, arrange two of the 3-foot rods so they are parallel to each other.

6. Place two of the six short rods inside each end of the longer rods. These are the width rods and should form a rectangle shape with the longer rods.

7. Put on a welding mask, and weld the rods together at each point where they meet. Make a second rectangle the same way.

8. Stand the four rods of the same length vertically on the outside of one of the rectangles. These are the rods that are the same height as your tallest DVD.

9. Place one rod to the left of the upper and lower left corners, and to the right of the upper and lower right corners.

10. Weld the vertical rods to the rectangular shape.

11. Attach the second rectangle inside the vertical rods, and weld the same way as you did for the other rectangle, but placing them half an inch down from the ends of the rods. The half inch will serve as feet for the holder.

12. Turn the holder upside down so it is resting on the half-inch feet. The rectangles should be lying horizontally on the corner rods at the top and bottom.

13. Weld the last two rods horizontally on the short sides of the holder. You should place one on each side of the holder, and center each between the rods above and below it.
