Before you can measure your large bay window for window blinds you need to decide if you want the blind to mount inside the window frame and sit flush with the windowsill or if you want the window blind to mount on the head rail above the window and lower over the window. Each mounting method slightly changes the areas you need to measure. The only addition to the process when installing two independent window blinds in one window is to divide your width measurements in half. Does this Spark an idea?
Instructions
Inside Window
1. Hold the tip of a tape measure against the inside edge of the window frame and have a second person hold the other end of the tape measure against the inside edge of the window frame on the other side of the window. This measures the width of the window.
2. Divide the width of the window by two to obtain the width for each blind. Subtract 1/8-inch from the measurement to prevent the blinds from hitting each other when mounted. This will leave a total gap in the center of the window less than 1/4-inch
3. Hold the tip of the tape measure on the bottom ledge of the head rail and then have the second person hold the other end of the tape measure against the top edge of the windowsill. This measures the length of your window blind.
Outside Window
4. Hold the tip of a tape measure against the outside edge of the window frame and have a second person hold the other end of the tape measure against the outside edge of the window frame on the other side of the window. This measures the width of the window.
5. Divide the width of the window by two to obtain the width for each blind. Since both blinds will mount over the window framing, you do not have to subtract any width since you will have room to create a slight space between the two blinds.
6. Hold the tip of the tape measure on the top of the head rail and then have the second person hold the other end of the tape measure against the top edge of the windowsill. This measures the length of your window blind.
