Fix leaky mobile home roofs by coating them.
Mobile home roofs can acquire leaks very easily, as they are exposed to weather conditions. It is important to find and fix the source of the leak as soon as possible, to avoid permanently damaging the walls, flooring, insulation, woodwork, doors and windows of your home. Often it is difficult to find the source of the leak in your roof, as water can follow the truss system or seep down the sidewalls. Coating and sealing the leaks with various materials is necessary, and can be accomplished without a professional roofer. Does this Spark an idea?
Instructions
1. Use a ladder to carefully climb up onto your roof. Remove any old, flaking roof coating by scrubbing the roof with a wire brush and coarse sandpaper. Use a broom to sweep any loose material off of the roof.
2. Check the roof for any metal deterioration. Cover any deteriorated areas with a metal primer. This helps the patching cement and roof coating smoothly bond to the roof.
3. Use a stiff bristle paintbrush to cover all of the roof seams and flashing with patching cement. Roof seams need to be covered because they can split from the weight of snow or ice; flashing should be covered to prevent water from seeping into the home through roof vents or skylights.
4. Mix the roof coating and wait for the patching cement to completely dry. Use a roof brush, or roller brush, to roll the roof coating onto the roof, carefully following the instructions for coverage. This will seal the entire roof, patching any hidden leaks.
