Whether you're graduating high school or college, reaching a milestone and moving on to the next stage of your life is something that deserves celebration. Coming up with a slogan that reflects the personality of your graduating class adds pizazz to your party, gets people excited and gives your class an idea to rally around. Use it on your party invitations, and if your budget permits, print it on souvenir t-shirts to give to your guests as keepsakes. Does this Spark an idea?
Serious and Sentimental
If you want a slogan that's s bit serious and thought-provoking, quotations from famous writers and thinkers are a good place to start. Dr. Seuss offers inspiration in a few simple, but well-chosen words: "You have brains in your head. You have feet in your shoes. You can steer yourself in any direction you choose." Combining a famous quotation with your own informal prose can make it your class's own. For example, you could borrow this quotation from Ralph Waldo Emerson: "Do not go where the path may lead; go instead where there is no path and leave a trail." Include the quotation in italics, along with the author's name, and write your own addition below: "Make way for some trailblazers: University of Waterloo English, class of 2011." Using the sentiment of a popular quotation and writing your own slogan from scratch is another option. For example, Milton Berle said "If opportunity doesn't knock, build a door." An engineering or architecture class could transform this idea into an original slogan: "We don't look for opportunities. We build our own. University of Toronto architecture, class of 2012."
Celebration and Goofiness
If you've done enough thinking in your high school or college days and you'd rather have a slogan that focuses on party and celebration, you have a number of options. Wordlab.com suggests "Stick a fork in us; we're done!" Other possibilities include "Kiss our clASS; we're outta here! Class of 2011," "We can't wait to miss our college years" and "Only 43 years until we're seniors again!" You can adjust the number of years in the last example to reflect the average age of your program or school's graduating students.
Your Class's Year
Sometimes, you can come up with good slogan ideas by thinking about popular culture references or world events that involve your graduation year. For example: "There's a reason why the Mayans said the world would end in 2012. NYU class of 2012. Release the apocalypse." The numbers in your year may offer ideas. For the class of 2011: "On a ten-point scale, we're '11." Think about words that rhyme with your class year, and use that inspiration to compose a slogan. You might have to modify the way you'd normally say your class year to come up with good rhymes. Change how you refer to your class year so it ends with an easy-to-rhyme one or two. For example: "We're hot, we've got brains and we're ready for you. All hail the class of two zero one two."
