Green Grants

The government offers incentives for new home builders who utilize sustainable energy and efficient energy sources in their construction. Tax incentives for green building can be immensely helpful to those building a new home and can pay for up to half of the system costs, depending on the incentive variables. Amenities like solar energy systems or water-saving hot water tanks can be written off on your income tax and you can receive substantial tax credits for adhering to green environmental standards. Energy Star programs in particular are eligible for tax incentives under the Environmental Protection Agency.

Rural Housing Development Grants

Most states offer new home building initiatives for those who meet specific requirements. If your home site construction is in a rural area and you are an agricultural farmer you may qualify for a rural housing grant as offered by the United States Department of Agriculture. These grants offer funding to those who want to build or restore a house in a rural or otherwise undeveloped area. The Housing and Community Facilities Program was designed to help needy families in rural areas.
