Terminix is a pest control company with the memorable slogan, "power over pests." Terminix specializes in termite control, usually through providing termite inspection and elimination services. However, Terminix doesn't only focus on termites--fleas and other pests are also a major concern for the company. After Terminix treats homes for termites, it offers customers bonds for continued service and care. Does this Spark an idea?
Function
What exactly is a Terminix termite bond? After Terminix treats your home and eliminates the initial (and hopefully the last) termite outbreak, it will offer you a bond, which is basically a contract stating that Terminix will return to your home once a year to inspect for any further termite activity. Every year, the customer is required to pay a fee for the continued inspection as well as the actual bond.
Potential
If termites actually reappear in your home during the annual check, termite bonds generally have a guarantee of free treatment and termite-elimination services. In many cases, Terminix will offer free repair of any damage that the termites might have caused to your home (for the time period that the Terminix bond has existed, of course).
Considerations
How much do Terminix termite bonds generally cost? Generally, Terminix bonds are approximately 10 percent of the cost of the initial termite treatment. So if you opt to not purchase the Terminix bond, or if your Terminix bond expires after a period of time, you have to cover the termite treatment entirely yourself if they reappear in your residence.
Prevention/Solution
If you plan to live in your house for a decade or longer, it's probably a good and cost-effective idea to take out the Terminix termite bond. If you plan to leave your house soon and move out, you probably will not have termites for the remainder of the time you reside in the house, so purchasing the bond might not be needed.
Warning
A lot of homes that have been treated by Terminix (or any pest control company) have recurring termite issues. Be sure to ask Terminix about a damage warranty if you inquire about purchasing the Terminix termite bond. A damage warranty is just to be on the safe side--but you can never predict when termites are going to show up again, even after extensive treatment. Better safe than sorry, as termites can do major, costly damage to your home and your furniture.
