Building repair projects can be financed by grants.
Programs are available that sponsor grants to pay for repairs and renovations of residential and nonresidential buildings. Funds are also used to acquire land, demolish and replace unsafe buildings, and enforce building codes during construction. These grants are not required to be repaid to the sponsoring program.
Community Entitlement Program
Sponsored by the Department of Housing and Urban Development, the community entitlement grant program provides grants to fund revitalization efforts in eligible areas. Funds from the grant can be used to acquire land, demolish structures, renovate residential and non-residential buildings and improve public facilities such as neighborhood centers. Grants can also support programs that increase job creation and retention of businesses. Construction or renovation of government buildings and funding political activities are prohibited. Cities with more than 50,000 residents and counties topping 200,000 residents are eligible to apply.
