Repair A Glass Figure

Broken figures can be repaired with two-part epoxy glue for glass.

A glass figure has multiple elements that make it susceptible to breakage. Glass tree sculptures, as an example, typically have protrusions that can easily get broken if you bump into them. Fortunately, you have the ability to put the object back together using a strong epoxy glue and a few household items. Does this Spark an idea?

Instructions

1. Put on gloves and place the pieces of the broken glass figure in soapy water. Gently scrub the broken areas with a washcloth, rinse off the soap, and allow the parts to air dry. This step ensures that accumulated debris does not keep the glue from bonding.

2. Squeeze epoxy glue out onto a piece of newspaper until the glue circle reaches the diameter of a quarter. Epoxy contains two separate solutions, distinguishable by the different colors, that do not come in contact with each other until you squeeze the bottle. Use a toothpick to thoroughly mix these two parts.

3. Stick your toothpick in the mixed glue and spread it completely over just one of the surface areas of the broken piece. If you put glue on both parts, excess glue will cause an unsightly overflow.

4. Bring the detached piece to the epoxy surface and lightly press the parts together. Hold this position as long as the epoxy container indicates.

5. Place your glass figure in a safe area where it is least likely to be bumped, and allow the glass to dry for the amount of time specified on your glue container. Typical drying times range from 12 to 24 hours.
