Repair Panel Rust

Panels are a part of cars and construction. If made of metal, these panels are prone to rusting. The protective coating on the panels may wear away or get scratched. When this happens and then the metal comes into contact with moisture, rust forms. It is best to remove the panel rust as soon as it appears so it is less likely to spread and cause more damage. Many removal techniques exist to repair rusted objects. Does this Spark an idea?

Instructions

1. Scrape off the rust. Buy a wire brush and mineral oil from a hardware store. Apply the mineral oil to the rust stains. Use a paper towel to do this. Wait five to 15 minutes. Use the brush to scrape away the panel rust. Use a little extra pressure if needed. Wipe the area clean with a cloth. Repeat if rust remains.

2. Apply a paste. Combine 2 parts borax with 1 part lemon juice. Allow the paste to thicken, then apply it to the panel rust with a scrubbing pad. Wait 10 to 30 minutes for the paste to work on the rust. Then use the scrubbing pad to get rid of the rust. Wipe away the rust and paste with a clean cloth. The citric acid in the lemon juice works to break down the rust stains.

3. Buy naval jelly from a hardware store. Put on work gloves and apply the jelly to the panel's rust stains, using a scrubbing pad. Leave the naval jelly on for five to 10 minutes. Then scrub at the rust stains again. Wipe off the rust and naval jelly with a cloth or paper towel. Naval jelly is very effective in getting rid of rust stains because of its phosphoric acid.
