Iphone Repair Tools

You'll need 4- and 6-bit torx drivers to unscrew internal iPhone screws.

A case can protect your iPhone from damage, but the screen may still get cracked or you might drop the phone into water. Or you may have to replace the volume control or home button. This requires special tools geared toward smaller pieces, screws and spaces. You may already have these tools around your house; if not, you can pick them up at your local hardware store. You can also order iPhone repair kits online. These kits include most or all of the tools you'll ever need to repair your iPhone.

Screwdrivers and Torx Drivers

The first thing you need to take apart your iPhone is a screwdriver. You may need up to four different types of screwdrivers, depending on the parts you're replacing. A small Phillips screwdriver is essential for removing the iPhone's exterior casing. For internal screws, you need a torx driver with both 4- and 6-bit pieces or ends. You may also need a small flat-head screwdriver. It is best to use magnetized screwdrivers and torx drivers, which make removing small screws much easier.

Prying Tools

To remove the exterior casing and iPhone glass screen, you need prying tools. The most common prying instrument is a safe open tool, which has a handle similar to a screwdriver's but has a flat head made from plastic. This allows you to get into small cracks and pry apart two pieces. If you can't find this type of prying tool, guitar picks are a great alternative (preferably unused and unworn).

Other Items

A few essential items you should have on hand are a miniature suction cup to pull up the glass screen, and liquid polish and a microfiber cloth to buff the screen. It's important to wipe down all parts after handling and replacing them.
