Becoming a cosmetologist online is not the best way to obtain your schooling because you won’t have a hands-on education. But it can be more affordable than a live cosmetology school and you will still obtain a license. Becoming a cosmetologist generally includes any or all of the following skills: giving haircuts, applying hair color and doing manicures, pedicures and facials.
Instructions
1. Select a school online that suits your budget and curriculum tastes. You can contact the National Accrediting Commission of Cosmetology Arts and Sciences to find out if a certain school is accredited.
2. Register and pay for the courses.
3. Complete all course work and turn in assignments on time. There will be many DVDs to view to make up for the missing hands-on component.
4. Perform an Internet search to find out which state government body regulates the cosmetology industry in your state and call them to find out the licensing requirements. The relevant agency is often called the Board of Cosmetology.
5. Fill out any paperwork and pay any fees to become a licensed cosmetologist. Often there is a written or hands-on exam before you receive your license.
