Fix & Repair A Computer For Free

You can fix many computer problems yourself, using readily available tools.


Repairing your computer does not always require the services of a costly computer technician. Most problems on today's operating systems can be solved by using the System Restore feature you already have at your fingertips. Be sure to back up files beforehand; some features will erase data files. Refer to your user's manual for further details.


Instructions


Systems Restore


1. Click "Start" and type "System Restore" in the "Search" box.


2. Press "Enter" and select "Use a different restore point."


3. Choose a date prior to the time your computer first began exhibiting problems.


4. Press "Next" to restore your computer, fixing the problem at no cost to you.


System Repair


5. Insert your Windows disc into the computer and restart the PC.


6. Press any key when prompted to boot from the installation CD.


7. Choose your language, keyboard layout, and currency type from the onscreen menus.


8. Click "Install Now" and click "Get Important Updates."


9. Enter your product key number, select "Accept" when presented with the license agreement, and click the "Custom Installation" button. Highlight the drive containing your current Windows installation (this is almost always "C") and press "Next" to reinstall the operating system, restoring the computer to default conditions and alleviating problems.


Startup Repair


10. Insert the Windows DVD into the computer.


11. Restart the computer. Press any key when prompted to boot from the disc.


12. Enter your language, keyboard, and currency options.


13. Click "Repair your computer."


14. Select the drive containing your Windows installation (this is almost always the "C" drive) and press "Next" to repair the computer.
