Ohio Homeowner Grants

The cost of purchasing and maintaining a home can be a challenge for many. A sluggish economy or personal setbacks can delay plans and even cost someone their home. Fortunately, state and federal grant funds are available to homeowners to help with the purchase, preservation or repair of their homes.

Ohio Emergency Home Repair Grants

Home repairs that are needed as a result of a national disaster or other emergency are costly. These can range into the tens of thousands of dollars, forcing some families to borrow or go without. The Ohio Emergency Home Repair Grant is designed to help families in these situations by giving them the funding they need to make the needed repairs on their homes. To qualify, the applicant cannot make more than 150 percent more than the federal poverty line. The maximum amount awarded for repairs is $5,000 and is given only once in the lifetime of the homeowner.

This can be used to help fund the down payment or other out-of-pocket costs a first-time home buyer might incur. To qualify applicants must be first-time home buyers from an Ohio school. They must apply for the grant within 18 months of graduating from school and obtain financing through an Ohio Housing Finance Agency-approved lender.
