Diy Mobile Home Skirting

DIY Mobile Home Skirting

Vinyl skirting around a mobile home can be the home's finishing touch. Skirting hangs between the bottom of the mobile home and the ground below. Most mobile homes rest on a raised foundation, which the skirting will cover; aside from the cosmetic advantages it also keeps the home protected from animals and the elements. Installing mobile home skirting is a simple process but can be time consuming, because you have to measure each piece of the skirting. Does this Spark an idea?

Instructions

1. Use the level to mark the area where each corner will meet the ground in a plumb line. Take the wood stakes and stick one in the ground in each of these corners. Snap the chalk line on the ground between each point.

2. Attach the ends and the middle of the J-channel. If you are attaching the J-channel to concrete, you should use nails or spikes. Put the back strip of the bottom J-channel on the chalk line. Nail the J-channel to the ground with the ground spikes or nails.

3. Attach the back top rail a half-inch, starting from the highest point of the mobile home. Using the hammer and nails or spikes, nail the top back rail to the house making sure to hold it from the bottom of the top rail flush with the bottom of the mobile home. Also, leave a half-inch at the corners and between any pieces. Continue to apply the rail around the rest of the mobile home.

4. Start at the highest point of the mobile home and determine the distance between the edge of the back top rail and the ground. Measure the width of the panels, or every 16 inches, to make sure you have the right measurements. Allow 1 inch longer if you live in a warm area and 2 inches longer if you live in a colder climate.

5. Use the tin snips to cut a section of the skirting panel 1 inch longer than the distance you just measured. Put the panel into the bottom rail and set it against the top rail. Continue doing this around the rest of the mobile home.

6. Insert the top rail cover into the top back rail. This will cover the panels you cut. Cut a 1-inch V-notch from the top rail cover and bend it around the corner. This will cover corners. Install the top rail cover around the rest of the mobile home.
