Repair A Kindle'S Cracked Screen

Repair a Kindle's Cracked Screen

The Kindle is Amazon's E-Book reader that can store many different books. This comes in handy if you travel a lot and want to read while on the go, but a damaged Kindle screen will render the unit useless. The good news is that you can open up your Kindle and replace the screen.

Instructions

1. Turn off your Kindle, and turn the unit over. Slide the back panel off of the unit. Remove the battery, and set it aside.

2. Use your Phillips screwdriver to remove the eight screws on the back of the Kindle.

3. Insert the tip of your case opener tool in the seam where the back panel of the unit meets the front of the Kindle. Work your way around the unit's back panel until it comes off. Set it aside.

4. Remove all screws from the top of the motherboard.

5. Unplug all ribbon cables connected to ports on the top of the motherboard.

6. Lift the motherboard out of the housing, and set it aside. A metal frame will now be visible covering the back of the screen. Lift this frame out, and set it aside.

7. Remove the cracked LCD screen from the housing, and fit a new one in its place. Reverse the steps for reassembly of the Kindle parts.
