South Dakota has 75 airports for public use. While there are no international airports in South Dakota, there are regional airports and many private airports as there are avid fliers in the state. South Dakota airports offer connections to major cities in the U. S.. Important regional airports are the Aberdeen Regional Airport, the Pierre Regional Airport, the Rapid City Regional Airport, the Sioux Falls Regional Airport and the Watertown Regional Airport.


Aberdeen Regional Airport


Aberdeen Regional Airport is the first regional airport built in the state. Located in Brown County, South Dakota, Aberdeen serves the populations of northeastern South Dakota and southeastern North Dakota. One major airline and two fixed base operators (FBOs) serve the airport. Both FBOs offer refueling services, repair services, licensed airframe and power plant mechanics. Aircraft rental, charter flights, flight instruction and aerial photography are available. Aberdeen Regional Airport offers a safe, secure flying environment and conveniently located terminal and parking. Car rentals are available in the terminal.

Pierre Regional Airport


Located in Hughes County, Pierre Regional Airport (PIR), serves the state capital, businesses and residents of central South Dakota. Located three miles east of the central business district, the airport is served by two air carriers. PIR is the only airport that provides regularly scheduled air carrier service. Capital City Air Carrier, Inc. is the fixed base operator (FBO) offering charter flights, flight instruction, and fuel sales. Car rentals are available at the airport. Taxi, limousine and bus service is available. PIR offers a safe, secure airport environment and plays an important role as a convenient airport for customers and businesses in the area.

Rapid City Regional Airport


Rapid City Regional Airport (RAP), located in the Great Lakes Region is recognized by the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) as one of the top performing and safest airports in the region. Located in Pennington County on the western slopes of the Black Hills in South Dakota, visitors come to see the mountain carvings of Mt. Rushmore and Crazy Horse, the Badlands and the Black Hills National Forest. Sioux Falls Regional Airport


Sioux Falls Regional Airport (FSD) is the largest airport in South Dakota, serving southeastern South Dakota, southwest Minnesota, and northwest Iowa with scheduled passenger service, overnight cargo, complete general aviation services and serves as a U.S. Customs Port of Entry. Sioux Falls Regional is served by four airlines. Car rentals are available. Numerous shuttles, limousine services, and taxi services are available. Shuttles offering convenience for wheelchair passengers are available. FSD offers a safe and secure airport environment.

Watertown Regional Airport


Located on the shores of Lake Kampeska and Lake Pelican, the Watertown Regional Airport was established as an Army Air Force airport in the 1940s. Watertown has some of the longest runways in South Dakota and offers two nonstop air services to Minneapolis and Pierre every day. Watertown is a full service commercial airport and provides quality general aviation services with onsite fixed based operators. Parking is free at Watertown Regional and car rentals are available. Flying out of a smaller regional airport is a convenient alternative to larger, busier regional airports in the state.
