Do It Yourself Bath Tub Repair

Make bath tub repairs yourself.

When making a repair in your home, your first thought may be to hire a professional to complete the task. However, some repairs around your home are easy to complete as do-it-yourself projects. Repairing a chipped or broken bath tub is one of those easy home repairs. Set some time aside and then get to work. Does this Spark an idea?

Instructions

1. Rinse out the bathtub to wash away loose soap scum and mildew buildup. Plug the tub, fill it with hot water, and then let it drain out. Scrub the entire surface with a soft sponge and mild dish soap.

2. Lightly sand the damaged area to create a rough coating for the filler to stick to. Use the palm sander in a circular motion for about 10 seconds, just enough to roughen the surface without indenting it or removing too much ceramic.

3. Place the hardener and filler in the bowl, and mix with the putty knife.

4. Use the applicator to fill the crack with the fresh compound. Overfill the crack, and then wipe away the excess compound from around the crack. Dampen a corner of one of the towels to do this more easily.

5. Lightly spray a mist of aerosol acrylic over the repaired area, and allow 24 hours to dry before using the bathtub again.
