The Canadian government offers its citizens all types of grants, ranging from making home adaptations for the elderly to assisting with certain home improvements to supporting the arts in local areas. To be eligible for these grants, applicants must be a Canadian citizen or businesses operating within Canada. Grant amounts and deadlines will vary by granting body.
Emergency Repair Program
Canada's Mortgage and Housing Corporation’s Emergency Repair Program is open to citizens who need funds to repair their permanent residence or need funds in order to fix a residence in which they will be making their permanent home. Applicants must reside in a rural community and must be at or below the poverty level. Repairs eligible for this program include repairs to foundations, the house’s electrical system, the chimney, windows, doors, vents and the plumbing system. Funds available per project run from $6,000 to $11,000, depending on how much work needs to be done. The grant is open to homeowners and tenants.

Canada Council for the Arts
The Canada Council for the Arts offers grants to Canadian artists and art organizations in one of the following fields: dance, visual arts, music, media arts, theater, writing and inter-arts. Grants can be given to individual artists who are seeking funds to create a piece of art or to travel to promote their art and for those seeking to further develop their career and/or a residency. Art non-profit organizations may receive funds for operating costs, organizational development and projects costs. Grant monies can also be used to present or to inform the public about the organization. Grants for individual artists range from $3,000 to $20,000, or up to $34,000 for visual artists. Travel grants range from $500 to $2,500. Grant deadlines and grant amount for organizations will vary.

Home Adaptations for Seniors Independence
The Home Adaptations for Seniors Independence is administered by the Canada Mortgage and Housing Corporation. This grant is made available to senior citizens at or below the poverty level and these funds must be used to fix minor problems within a permanent residence. The purpose of this program is to ensure that houses are safe for senior citizens to comfortably live in their own home. To be eligible for the program, seniors must be 65 years old or older and must have some problems with conducting daily living activities. Eligible repairs include those that make it easier for seniors to live in their home and those that are considered permanent repairs .
