MHDC offers several grant programs to help with home repairs.
Missouri offers a number of housing grants to low- and moderate-income residents. The Missouri Housing Development Commission (MHDC), which administers the program, details all relevant information on their website (www.mhdc.com). The available grants include the Home Repair Opportunity Program, the HOPE Program and the Missouri Housing Trust Fund.
Home Opportunity Repair Program
The Missouri Home Repair Opportunity Program provides grants for home repairs to low- and moderate-income homeowners. In order to qualify for the program, the homeowner must use the house as his or her primary residence, the home repair must qualify with local regulations and the repaired home cannot exceed 95 percent of the maximum sales price for a HUD 203(b) loan.
HOPE Program
The HOPE program provides real estate and energy efficient incentive grants for eligible low- and moderate-income home buyers in Missouri. The HOPE program requires individuals to meet certain income requirements established by the MHDC, which range from $58,300-$70,400 for a one- or two-person household (based on a non-targeted region) to $81,620-$98,560 for a three or more person household (based on the targeted region). In order to be eligible for the HOPE program, the applicant must be at least 18 years of age. The HOPE program prohibits payments to owners who purchased the property from a relative or spouse.
To be eligible for the HOPE program energy efficient incentive, the owner must own a newly-constructed, energy efficient home and incur energy efficient improvement costs. The HOPE program offers a maximum combined amount for the real estate and energy efficient incentive program is $1,750.
Missouri Housing Trust Fund
The Missouri Housing Trust Fund provides grants to organizations offering housing assistance to individuals and families in Missouri. Developers and non-profit organizations may apply for the housing grant, but applicants must have qualified and experienced staff to aid in grant administration. Applicants also must demonstrate an ability to provide housing or housing services to low or moderate income individuals.
