Many old mobile homes have poorly installed windows that leak both air and water into your home. In order to fix the problem, new windows should be installed. The new windows should be energy efficient and double-paned to keep out as much air and water as possible. Installing the windows can be a do it yourself project, and you can save money as well. Instructions
1. Remove the J-rail from the top of the mobile home above the siding with the drill set in reverse and snap the pieces of siding off from around the window. Remove the siding carefully and be sure not to bend it.
2. Set the drill in reverse and remove the screws holding the window frame in place. Remove the old window from the mobile home.
3. Scrape off the old putty tape from around the window opening and replace it with a double layer of new putty tape.
4. Insert the new window into the opening. Use the drill to tighten the screws into the mobile home around the window frame. Be sure to use screws that are ¼-inch longer than the original screws.
5. Apply a line of silicon sealant where the window frame meets the side of the mobile home.
6. Snap the siding back in place around the window and tighten the screws in the J-rail at the top of the mobile home.
