You can receive a grant to put solar panels on your roof.
Several programs sponsor grants that are used to build, replace or repair roofs of residential, commercial and public buildings. Grants are used to cover the costs of the roof projects, including the purchase of materials and equipment and labor and administrative expenses. These grants do not have to be repaid; however, some grant programs require the recipients to finance a percentage of the project costs with funds from other sources.
Weatherization Assistance Program
The Weatherization Assistance Program (WAP) provides grants to finance home improvement projects to make homes energy efficient. Some of the projects approved by the program include insulating walls, replacing roofs, windows and heating and cooling systems. These weatherization services are provided free of charge to low income households. Total project costs are limited to $6,500 per household. This grant program is funded by the Department of Energy.
