Screened-in porches provide a relaxing place to sit in the evening without being disturbed by insects--unless the screen is in need of repair. Small tears in the screen can allow insects to enter. The solution is to repair the screen before the tear grows larger. The repair requires using a small patch to cover the torn area. Once the repair has been made, the repaired area will blend in and you will have the comfort of a bug-free environment. Does this Spark an idea?
Instructions
1. Locate the damaged areas of your porch screen. Even the smallest tears can create a problem. Determine the type of screen on your porch. Purchase a matching metal screen patch if you have metal. If you have fiberglass screen, purchase a fiberglass screen repair kit, and skip to Step 4.
2. Align the metal screen patch over the exterior side of the screen and slide the wire tabs on the patch's outside edges through the holes in the screen.
3. Bend the wire tabs over on the interior side of the screen to fasten the patch and complete the metal screen repair.
4. Cut a square out of the fiberglass screen 1/2 inch smaller on all sides than the patch, using a straight edge and utility knife.
5. Align the patch over the screen opening on the exterior side. Apply the included glue around the perimeter of the patch to bond it to the screening. Use the included applicator to spread the glue evenly. Attach the patch, then allow the glue to dry.
