If your iPod Touch home button is slow or not responsive, try these troubleshooting tips.
As the name of the device indicates, most of the actions you take on an iPod Touch are done on the touch screen. However, the button beneath the screen, known as the "home button," is also vital when it comes to finding the main menu. If you are having a problem with the home button, Apple has a few troubleshooting tips you can take to repair it that do not involve taking the Touch apart, which would void the warranty and is not recommended.
Instructions
1. Allow your iPod Touch to go into sleep mode, indicated when the screen is black. Press the home button to see if the screen responds. If so, move on to Step 2. If it does not, call an Apple store.
2. Open an application and close it using the home button. Repeat this step with several applications. If only a few applications show resistance in responding to the home button, delete those applications and reinstall them.
3. Power off the iPod Touch and power it back on. If the home button is still sluggish, hold down both the home and sleep buttons simultaneously for more than 10 seconds to reset the device.
4. Connect the iPod Touch to your computer using the USB cord. Launch iTunes and select the device under "Devices" on the left. Click "Restore." Wait for the restoration to finish and check your iPod again. If the home button is still sluggish or not responding, make an appointment at an Apple store.
