Diy Repair Of A Delta Shower Faucet

Repairing a Delta shower faucet is a simple DIY project for any handyman or home repair enthusiast. Only the most basic tools are necessary. This fix-it project solves the issue of a leaking handle or spout, and any trouble adjusting the water temperature. It replaces the valve cartridge inside of the faucet, the one controlling the mixture of hot and cold water and the amount of flow from the faucet. Does this Spark an idea?

Instructions

1. Turn off the water supply by shutting both hot and cold water pipe valves located inside the shower wall. Access to these valves is found on most showers through the wall behind the shower. If there is no panel, just close the home's incoming water valve, usually located in the basement.

2. Take off the cover on top of the handle and remove the screw under it with an Allen wrench or screwdriver (if it is a slot or Phillips head screw). If there is no cover and this is a lever handle faucet, the screw is located under the handle near the base. Find and remove the screw.

3. Pull the handle off by hand. Take off the nut under the handle with a pair of pliers. Apply a little bit of pressure to the nut with the pliers and turn it to the left to remove. Pull the cartridge out after the nut is removed. It is only necessary to remove the cartridge, not the entire base of the faucet.

4. Place a new cartridge into the faucet, replace the nut and tighten it with the pliers. This seats the cartridge inside the head of the faucet.

5. Replace the handle and attach it firmly by tightening up the screw with the Allen wrench or screwdriver. Replace the cap if there is a cap on your faucet handle.
