Repair Dents In Metal Bumpers

Repair dented car or lawn machine bumpers.

Though metal bumpers are quickly being phased out on cars, several home appliances and machines like tractors and mowers still use some form of metal bumper. When a metal bumper is damaged or dented, it leads to rust and is unsightly. So, repairing these parts is a top concern if you want to keep your items looking their best. Using a simple, hands-free approach is one way to do it. This method requires no pulling, pushing or reshaping and it is a quick fix. Does this Spark an idea?

Instructions

1. Thoroughly clean the area of the dent with a household cleaner and rag to remove dust and debris. Assess the dent to figure out where the deepest part is and where the dent ends. Make a mental note of these locations.

2. Heat the entire dented area with a heat source like a hair dryer or heat gun. Hold the heat gun or hair dryer on the area for about a minute or two. Refrain from using a torch, as this damages paint and leaves a residue. You only need to raise the temperature of the metal slightly.

3. Immediately apply CO2 to the dented area. To do this, hold a can of compressed air upside down and point the spray straw toward the dent. Depress the handle to spray the material onto the metal. Coat the entire area.

4. Wait a few seconds and watch the dent pop out. The contracting metal will flex and pull out the dent without any additional touching or shaping. If not, reheat the dent for a longer period of time and spray more CO2 onto the surface. This will increase the chance for success.
