Diy Auto Rust Repairs

Owning a car mean maintaining it on a regular basis. One source of potential problems is rust or corrosion. Rust is a common occurrence when the rust-proof coating on cars wears away or is removed by dents and minor car mishaps. Advanced rust can form holes in the metal thereby causing extensive damage to some systems of the car. Removing all rust on a regular basis keeps the car operating. Instructions


1. Scrape off rust. Use a wire brush to scrub off the rust on the surface. Home improvement stores sell wire brushes.


2. Apply mineral oil. Apply mineral oil to the rust with a paper towel. Allow the mineral oil to soak in for at least 20 minutes. Scrub off the rust with a scrubbing pad. Use a damp paper towel to clean the car. Dry with a paper towel.


3. Buy rust remover from a store. Apply rust remover to rust on the car while wearing gloves. Put the rust remover onto a paper towel. Apply the rust remover to all the rusted areas of the car. Wait at least 5 minutes. Scrub the rust with a scrubbing pad. Wipe the car clean with a damp cloth. The rust removers contain acids like phosphoric acid or hydrochloric acid that dissolve the rust.
