Repair A Selfpropelled Craftsman Mower

Self-propelled mowers keep you from having to do this.

Self-propelled Craftsman mowers dramatically decrease the amount of work a user has to do due to the small motor that pulls the mower instead of relying on the user's pushing power. Sometimes these mowers can break down, but by reading the owner's manual and these steps, you will be able to repair your self-propelled Craftsman mower. Does this Spark an idea?

Instructions

1. Turn the motor off. Never try to repair a lawn mower unless the power is off.

2. Check the wheels to make sure they are moving properly. Sometimes what feels like a propelling problem could be a wheel problem. Spin the wheels to be sure they are snug. If they are a tad loose, tighten them with a wrench.

3. Look at the mower deck by tilting the handles to the ground. Look for any debris that could be clogging the mower and preventing it from riding properly across the ground.

4. Inspect the self-propelled lines running from the handles into the motor. Check to see if they are attached. If any of them seem loose, tighten them with the appropriate type of screwdriver.

5. Take off the propelled mower gear deck. For a front-propelled mower, it is located on top of the front part of the deck. For a rear-propelled mower, it is on the back part of the deck near the handles. Look for any problems, like broken gears or debris. If there is anything noticeably wrong, replace it. Call the Craftsman helpline to get replacement parts.
