Wire A House With Romex

If you need to wire your house, the most modern way is to use a product called Romex. Romex is the trade name for the white plastic coated wiring used in most homes. It has replaced metallic BX and cloth-covered knob and tube. If you wish to wire your house with Romex, it is very easy to work with and can be easily acquired at any home supply store. Instructions


1. Identify the wiring you wish to replace. Cut the power to the area or the whole house. Test with a tester to ensure the area's power is dead. Remove the old wire from the panel. Cut and remove the old wiring by whatever means are necessary.


2. Run the new Romex along the same path as the old wiring, securing it with staples every three feet.


3. Make the connections at the ends. Black wire goes to the gold screws and is the positive wire, white is the neutral wire, going to the silver screws and the bare copper wire is the ground and goes to the green screws. Repeat the process with every circuit and eventually you will have successfully wired your house with Romex
