Troubleshoot A Sony Dvd Home Theater

Fix your Sony DVD problems.

A Sony DVD home theater is a DVD player that acts like a surround sound receiver with a series of audio speakers. Purchasing such a set is a great way to save money over buying two different audio/video devices and it also saves you from connecting even more devices on your entertainment center. However, you may run into some playback issues, both for the audio and video, thankfully you can typically correct the problems yourself.

Instructions

1. Open up the DVD drive and inspect the bottom of the DVD for dust, dirt, finger prints or scratches if it is skipping. Any of these can cause the disk to scratch. However, if the disk is brand new or none of the debris is found on your DVD than the issue is with the player.

2. Spray a few shots of compressed air into the DVD player. This removes debris that sticks to the reading lens of the player.

3. Check the cable connection running from the Sony DVD player to your television. If the cable isn't completely inserted on either end you can experience video issues on the television.

4. Listen to the audio while in surround sound mode. You may notice objects on the left of the TV are coming from the right side speakers. This is because the speakers are connected to the wrong speaker ports on the back of the Sony DVD player. Disconnect the speakers from the right side ports and insert them into the left side ports (also remove the left side and insert the cables into the right side ports). The ports are clearly marked so you shouldn't have an issue finding the correct port.

5. Turn down the audio if you begin to hear it crackle. Crackling means the speaker is having a hard time recreating the audio and if the audio stays up you cam permanently damage the speakers.
