Community Colleges In Olympia Washington

There is one community college within the city of Olympia, and others nearby.


Community colleges are non-residential, two-year public colleges that have open-admission policies and typically offer associate's degrees or certificate programs. In many cases, community colleges are used by students as a stepping-stone for their eventual transfer to a four-year university or other institution of higher learning. In the city of Olympia, Washington there is only one official community college, but several others are found within the surrounding area, according to the Washington State Board for Community and Technical Colleges.


South Puget Sound Community College


South Puget Sound Community College (SPSCC) occupies a 101-acre wooded campus in Olympia, Washington. The college's enrollment is around 7,000 students per quarter. SPSCC has won numerous regional and national education awards and claims to be the only community college in the United States that operates a Certified Public Manager program. The college offers technical and transfer degrees, pre-college courses, general education courses and a variety of non-credit community education classes.

Tacoma Community College


Tacoma Community College (TCC) is in the city of Tacoma, less than 30 miles northeast of Olympia. According to TCC, more than 40 study areas and 60 professional and technical degrees are offered at its campus. Around 15,000 students enroll at TCC per year, with nearly 400 of these being international students. Community partnership is very important at TCC, as more than 140 local business professionals participate on advisory committees for school programs such as accounting, allied health, logistics, and para-education. This ensures that programs remain relevant, and are credited as being a big reason that TCC students achieve 86 percent placement in their chosen fields, claims the school.

Green River Community College


Green River Community College is situated on more than 180 acres of forested land in Auburn, which is about 40 miles northeast of Olympia. Green River CC offers associate's degrees and certificates in academic, professional, and technical programs, along with courses in continuing education and developmental education.
