Mobile homes are prefabricated residential dwelling structures made in an assembly plant. Manufactured homes are based on a steel frame and built of wood framing, exterior siding and interior wall finishing. The plumbing is typically PVC piping, run under the steel frame for ease of access for future repairs. If your mobile home's water line is leaking, you can repair it yourself without having to hire a professional plumber. Does this Spark an idea?
Instructions
1. Remove the decorator blocks under the mobile home or lift the access door in the skirting near the leaking water line.
2. Look up under the manufactured home to find the exact location of the leaking water line.
3. Shut off the main water supply to the mobile home and then go back to the leak and place a drop cloth on the ground to lay on while repairing the leaking water line. Put a bucket under the leak.
4. Cut out a small section where the leak is occurring using a hacksaw to cut through the PVC water line.
5. Let the water still in the line drip into the bucket. Once the line is clear of water, remove the bucket.
6. File both ends of the water line where you cut out the section with a metal file to even them up. Then abrade each end with heavy-grit sandpaper to make each end smooth.
7. Measure the distance between each end with a tape measure.
8. Measure and cut a section of new PVC pipe to fit between the two ends, leaving enough room for couplers to fit on either side.
9. Spread pipe dope on each end of the existing water line where you sanded using the brush top, then fit one coupler on each side and let dry according to the manufacturer's directions.
10. Brush pipe dope onto the ends of the new PVC pipe, then fit the new PVC pipe between the two couplers. Remove the drop cloth and bucket and close up the access door or replace the decorator blocks. Allow to dry, then turn the water supply back on.
