Run Exe Downloads In Vista

If you're new to computers or just to Windows Vista, it can be confusing at first to find your way around the operating system. Fortunately, running an .exe file in Vista is a simple process. You can either access the file using Windows Explorer or run the file in Internet Explorer.

Instructions

Using Windows Explorer

1. Right-click "Start". Click "Explore" from the list of options. Windows Explorer will open.

2. Scroll or browse through your list of files and folders until you locate the folder containing the .exe file. If you're not sure which file it is, click "Tools" and then "Folder Options." Select the "View" tab and uncheck the box reading "Hide extensions for known file types." Click "OK."

3. Double-click the .exe file or right-click it and select "Open". The User Account Control dialogue box may appear. You will need to click "Approve" to access the .exe file.

Using Internet Explorer

4. Open Internet Explorer. You can access the program either by clicking the lower-case 'e' icon on your taskbar or through the "Start" menu.

5. Navigate to the website that has the .exe file you want to download. Click on the file. Sometimes Internet Explorer will block sites from downloading files to your computer. If this message appears, click the message bar and then click "Download File".

6. Click the "Run" button when the file download dialogue box appears. The file will save to your temporary folder. If the publisher is unknown or unverified, Internet Explorer will confirm whether you want to download the file. If you trust the publisher, click "Run". Click "Approve" when the User Account Control dialogue box appears.
