Renovate A Mobile Home

Mobile homes are a cost-effective way to own your own home, but the interior can quickly become dated. Renovating your home can add years to its life. There are some things you should consider before you begin, and set limits on what you wish to do. Does this Spark an idea?

Instructions

1. Check the wallpaper in all of the rooms. In many mobile homes the wallpaper is part of the wall. If this is the case in your home, sandpaper the walls.

2. Apply the wallpaper to the prepped wall. Do not try to install drywall unless your home sits on a concrete foundation. Shifts in the home will cause drywall to shift.

3. Pull up old carpet. You may need to replace the floor boards as well. Replace the carpet with carpeting that is suitable for a mobile home. Heavier carpeting can cause floor boards to sag.

4. Check your wiring and light switches before you replace them. Many mobile homes use different systems than conventional homes. If your mobile home uses different electrical systems, check with a local mobile home dealer for replacements.

5. Pull up old vinyl flooring from the kitchen and bathroom. Linoleum or vinyl flooring should be used to re-floor these rooms. Laminate can crack or buckle when the home shifts and isn't a good option for mobile homes.
