Audition For Hgtv'S Home Shows

You have visions of paint swatches and faux finishes dancing in your head. You have spent hours watching and salivating over the design shows on HGTV. You are ready to go from spectator to participant. With persistence, and a little luck, you can take the first step toward fulfilling your HGTV dream. Read on to learn audition for HGTV's home shows. Does this Spark an idea?

Instructions

1. Decide on a show. Start with the shows you are familiar with or a designer whose work you really like.

2. Find areas available for audition on HGTV's website. Many of the HGTV shows are taped in and near New York City and Los Angeles.

3. Have a budget in mind. Some shows provide money, while others make you pay for your expenses. Educate yourself on what a major bathroom renovation may cost before you apply for "Save My Bath." On the flipside, if your tastes and budget lean toward the extravagant, "Design on a Dime" is probably not the show for you.

4. Consider the time commitment. Interior decorating and landscaping projects can take a few hours or several months. Know how long the process is likely to take and how much time you are willing to devote to a project.

5. Learn to let go. When a designer enters your home, you are giving them free reign, sort of. They will get your suggestions and ask what you like color and style wise, but they are the professionals.

6. Be prepared to make your case. Tell why you need a professional. Make sure you have a hook or a story angle, if that's the premise of the show. Sound eager and enthusiastic about the show you want to be featured on. Take digital photos of the space you want done.

7. Log on to the HGTV website, click on the "Be on HGTV" tab, choose the show you are interested in and start the application. Each show has its own specifications and requirements.
