Install A Flue On A Pellet Stove

Connect the flue vent pipe to the exhaust pipe.

Flues on pellet stoves can be constructed in multiple configurations. Flue installations can include a freestanding mobile home installation; freestanding corner through the wall installation; freestanding horizontal exhaust through the wall; freestanding through the wall with vertical rise and horizontal termination installation; freestanding inside vertical installation; freestanding outside vertical installation; freestanding hearth mount installation and fireplace inserts through masonry. Whatever is chosen, installation isn't difficult. Does this Spark an idea?

Instructions

1. Determine the best installation for your flue. Vents can't pass through concealed spaces like attics. Check your codes for specifics related to your area. Mobile homes and airtight homes require mandatory outside fresh air, so you need two pipes---an inward- and outward-bound flue.

2. Place the pellet stove first. It will help you decide run the flue. Check the pellet stove's required clearances. They can be surprisingly minimal. An Enviro stove only requires 2 inches between the back of the stove and wall.

3. Refer to your building codes. Your codes will be surprisingly helpful and specific in suggesting run the flue. For example, the codes will tell you that you can't expel noxious fumes where they will be detrimental to members of the public.

4. Construct and run the flue pipe following the flue manufacturer's instructions. Install a thimble in the wall if needed. The thimble mustn't destroy the vapor barrier.

5. Install the flue on the pellet stove. Connect the flue vent pipe to the exhaust pipe on the stove. Just push it on. Seal the connection with high-temperature silicone. Seal the flue pipe to the thimble, again using high-temperature silicone.
