Market A Computer Repair Business

Market a Computer Repair Business

Any marketing effort is a two-way communication focused on understanding your customers' needs and worries, and then letting customers know how you can solve their problems better than anyone else can. In a computer repair business, you'll want to understand and explain not only how you can fix their computer, but also how you can provide them with high-quality customer service, quick turnaround and reasonable prices.

Instructions

1. Determine who your customer is. While this might seem obvious, since your customers are by definition people with broken computers, you're probably competing with other businesses. Find out who those businesses target, and identify underserved customers. For instance, if most of the repair businesses out there focus on PCs, specializing in Macs or in mobile phones can help a different class of customer find you.

2. Understand what customers' problems are. If losing their Blackberry for a day of repairs would mean thousands of dollars in lost business, you can advertise your loaner phone program and highlight how much you'll save them from lost productivity. If they dread using a repair service because they never know whether or not they're being defrauded or sold extra services, focus your marketing efforts on associating your brand and employees with trustworthiness and low pressure.

3. Figure out how your customer feels about your service and your competitors' services. You may ask current customers to fill out a customer satisfaction survey, or poll people who come into the store. Focus on how they felt before, during and after the repair, not on what was done. When you write your marketing messages and your advertisement, emphasize the transformation that satisfied customers have gone through. (Of course, if they're not satisfied, prioritize work on your customer service and operations over your marketing.)

4. Find out where your customers get trusted information on what company to use for computer repair. If you live near a prominent IT college and find that people call the college for recommendations, consider offering free services to the college or advertising in the college's newsletters. Getting other people to recommend you is the cheapest and most effective form of marketing.
