Help Disabled Families With Home Repairs

Find a charitable group through which to help disabled homeowners make repairs.

Some homeowners are "all thumbs" when it comes to home maintenance because of a lack of knowledge or proper training. Other homeowners may have lost the ability to repair their home because of injury, disease or physical or mental disability. These homeowners can greatly benefit from the help of concerned neighbors and individuals or organizations who care enough to assist them in taking care of simple home repairs.

Instructions

1. Locate a charity or another organization, such as Rebuilding Together, that organizes teams of volunteers to make home repairs for disabled homeowners.

2. Make a donation to that organization to financially support its work. If you want your gift to go to a specific state or city, contact the organization's director of development, or similarly titled administrator, and verify that your gift can be designated to help assist people in your city or another.

3. Volunteer with the organization by determining when the next home repair project is scheduled. Enlist the support of your friends, family and co-workers to help you improve a house.

4. Talk with the organization about ways you can help with a home repair project, even if you have no construction skills. You may be able to provide refreshments for other volunteers. You also may be able to paint or complete simple jobs like hammering or working on siding under the direction of a project lead.
