Diy Motorhome Repair

Many problems can occur when traveling in an RV, especially if it sits for an extended period. The good news is that you can fix many of these problems yourself instead of paying big dollars for a repairman. Whether you are handy or not, a do-it-yourselfer can always find a few projects around his or her RV.

Refrigerator Problems

A common problem is that the refrigerator isn't cooling properly. For a refrigerator to operate, coolant solutions must flow through the coils on the back of the refrigerator. This depends on gravity after the coils heat up, so when the refrigerator is not level and running the solution starts to back up. This causes the unit to overheat and crystallize. Ultimately, the crystals then stick where they are not supposed to. To solve this, try tipping the refrigerator over to loosen the crystals. If this doesn't work, the cooling unit will have to be replaced.

Faucet

The hardest part is getting to a faucet that needs replacement. Turn the water pump and faucets off to avoid a flood. Turn off both the hot and the cold water. There isn't much room, so you will have to feel around to find the nut to the faucets. Use a basin wrench to loosen the nut. Remove the water lines, keeping track of which is hot and cold. While the water is disconnected, reach up and loosen the three large nuts with tabs that hold the faucets in place. They should be able to loosen by hand. Remove the faucet. Get a faucet that matches the holes from the old faucet. Place some putty between the countertop and the new faucet and reassemble by doing everything in reverse.

Batteries

Many problems can come down to one simple problem -- batteries. They run almost everything, so this is one of the easiest RV repairs. Set a schedule to check the batteries' polarity and power. Check and replace the batteries in all of the detectors before it becomes a major repair job.
