Fix Car Door Dings
While dings in your car door aren't a major issue, they can be an eyesore. Taking your car to a repair shop can result in a pricey repair bill, which isn't necessary considering how easy it is to fix at home. It requires little more than some ingenuity to pop out dings like they were never there at all.
Instructions
The Dry Ice Method
1. Use a lighter or a hair dryer to heat the dented area of the door. If you use a lighter, it helps to place a piece of aluminum foil between the lighter and the door to protect the paint. It should only take about 30 seconds to heat the area.
2. Hold a piece of dry ice in the center of the dented area for 10 to 15 seconds.
3. Remove the ice and wait for the ding to pop out on its own. Wipe the area clean with a soft clean cloth.
The Compressed Air Method
4. Use a hair dryer to heat the area for 30 seconds. A lighter and piece of aluminum foil will work here as well; as long as the dented area gets heated without damaging the paint. If the car has been sitting out in the hot sun all day and the door is already hot to the touch, you can skip this step.
5. Hold a can of compressed air upside down and spray the dented area. When held upside down, the canister will dispense liquid CO2.
6. Allow the liquid CO2 to sit on the dented area for 10 to 15 seconds and the ding should pop out by itself.
7. Wipe the area with a soft clean cloth to remove any residual liquid CO2.
