Incorporate soccer or football maneuvers for a sports themed obstacle course.
Using household items and a stop watch, you can make an obstacle course for working out that will give the members of your family the opportunity to test their skills and endurance, all while enjoying quality family time.
Instructions
1. Plot an obstacle course in the backyard or an open field. Make as many stations as you can fit in the area.
2. Place numbered note cards in front of each station to direct participants to each course in the correct order.
3. Use two chairs and a broomstick to set up a jump obstacle. Space the chairs far enough apart to rest the broomstick across the seats. Participants must jump over the broomstick without knocking it down.
4. Create a tunnel with several large boxes and duct tape. Open two boxes at the top and bottom. Tape the flaps of one box to the flaps of another box to make the tunnel. Use multiple boxes to create a longer tunnel through which participants must crawl.
5. Evenly space eight bricks under a 2-inch by 4-inch wood stud to construct a balance beam participants must cross. Have participants carry 1 cup of water to increase the level of difficulty by having them not spill the water.
6. Place six hula-hoops on the ground in a zigzag pattern about 6 inches apart from each other. Participants have to leap from hoop to hoop to complete the obstacle.
7. Fill five pillow cases with rocks or dirt and tie the tops in a knot. Mark off two lines spaced 10 feet apart and place the filled pillow cases on one line. Participants have to carry each pillow case from one line to the other as quickly as possible.
8. Set up orange cones, small boxes or tennis shoes in a 20-foot-long zigzag line. Have participants run and navigate through each of the markers.
9. Position four laundry baskets or short boxes to make a rectangle that is 2-feet wide by 5-feet long. Drape blankets over the top of the baskets to create a narrow tunnel. Participants have to bear crawl under the tunnel.
10. Incorporate jumping jacks, pushups, sit-ups and jump rope stations throughout the obstacle course.
11. Use tape or a rope to mark off a finish line positioned 10-feet from the last obstacle. Use a stop watch and record each participants' time.
