Stretch A Boot Made Of Fabric

Fabric Boots

New boots made from fabrics such as leather or suede often need stretching before they are sufficiently broken in and wearable. If you have new boots that are too tight and are uncomfortable, it is possible to stretch out a pair of boots to make them more comfortable. If you learn stretch a boot made of fabric, you can wear your new boots happily for years to come.

Instructions

1. Assess and decide where you need more room in your boots and purchase the appropriate stretcher for your needs. There are stretchers made to stretch out the foot box of boots, the length of boots, and stretchers that will do both at the same time. There are also stretchers designed specifically to reach down into tall boots and give feet more room in the area for the toes. Stretchers come in one size that will expand as necessary within the boots or shoes you are trying to stretch.

Also purchase shoe stretching fluid. Stretchers work best when used with a stretching fluid that is used to open the pores of natural materials (like leather) and help these materials stretch without ripping. Most stretching fluids are made from a mixture of isopropyl alcohol and water. See Resources of a variety of stretchers and stretching fluid.

2. Spray a liberal amount of shoe stretching fluid onto the outer surface of your boots and allow time for the fluid to soak in.

3. Place the shoe stretcher inside the boot while the shoe stretching fluid is still wet on the surface of the boots. Turn the crank to make the shoe stretcher expand inside the boot.

4. Leave the shoe stretchers inside the boots for approximately 12 hours. Remove the shoe stretchers after the stretching period and try the boots on. If the boots are not stretched enough, repeat steps 2 and 3 until your boots fit properly.

Tips Warnings

For best results, do not try to stretch boots made of synthetic materials.

Spray the shoe stretching fluid on a small hidden area of the boot before using all over your boots. Sometimes dyes from the boots can begin to bleed when this product is used.
