Repair Rust On A Chevy Truck

Chevy trucks have been popular for decades. Many classic Chevy trucks are still in demand. But as with any truck or car, rust is a common problem. Rust occurs when moisture and metal are in constant contact. Although trucks (and also cars) have a rustproof coating when they are new, the rustproof coating wears off over time or is scratched off in fender benders or other minor accidents. Removing rust needs to be a regular part of truck maintenance.

Instructions

1. Scrub away all small rust spots with a wire brush or steel wool pad. If not treated, small rust spots become large rust spots.

2. Put on rubber gloves. Pour naval jelly onto a steel wood pad and scrub it into larger rust areas. Wait for five to 10 minutes or however long the directions say to leave on the naval jelly.

3. Wipe away the rust with a rag or paper towel. Make certain all traces of the naval jelly are gone.

4. Brush on a rust-inhibiting primer made for trucks and automobiles on the formerly rusted areas. Let the primer dry. The primer protects against rust formation.

5. Use touch-up paint in the same color of the car's paint as needed. Chose a rust-inhibiting paint made for touching up trucks and cars. Let dry.
