Repair Scratches On Stainless Steel Appliances

Remove fine scratches from your stainless steel appliances.

Although durable, your stainless steel appliances are susceptible to unsightly scratches caused by an abrasive scouring pad used while cleaning. While deep scratches are harder to repair, you can repair fine scratches from your appliances with a scratch remover kit. The scratch remover kit will refinish the surface of the stainless steel, and works for fine- to medium-sized scratches, according to "The Complete Household Handbook" by Good Housekeeping. To prevent scratching in the future, always use a soft, non-abrasive cloth to clean your stainless steel appliances. Does this Spark an idea?

Instructions

1. Unplug the stainless steel appliance, and wet the pad from the scratch repair kit with cool water.

2. Rub the wet pad onto the stainless steel appliance in the direction of the appliance's grain. The rubbing motions help to buff out the scratch, which diminishes the appearance of the scratch. For deeper scratches, rub the pad over entire appliance to blend the refinished area with the rest of the steel.

3. Wet a clean sponge with cool water, and wipe the appliance to remove residue from the pad. Continue rubbing the appliance with the pad until the scratch is removed, and wipe the area down with the wet sponge.

4. Pour three to four drops of the stainless steel polish into a soft, non-abrasive cloth and buff the stainless steel appliance with the cloth to polish it.
